GU was released on August 13th, 2022 as a silent free mint. What is remarkable is that prior to mint, GU did not have a wide following on twitter or other social media outlets. According to Doctorboom, who wrote an in-depth medium article about the project, GU twitter only had about 200 followers the day of the mint. The project went viral after that and built a strong community of passionate fans. Doctorboom closes the medium article with this:
After the art, the most significant thing that GU offers is its community. Our motto is “The community is the Utility,” and we show it every day. This community will support the project through all obstacles, through the highs and the lows.
